About me

Hooked since
I was five.

It started with a bowl of goldfish I won at the fair. I've kept aquariums ever since, and learned step by step how to turn one into a small ecosystem that keeps itself in balance.

The story

From goldfish bowl
to ecosystem.

As a child I mostly watched the fish. Later my attention went to what you don't see at first: the plants that clean the water, the bacteria in the substrate, the shrimp and snails that tidy up. Only when all of them work together does an aquarium stay healthy for years.

That's still how I work today. I build a system that regulates itself: lots of plants that grow well, year after year, without pushing them with CO₂ or lots of fertiliser. Sometimes I do experiment with a little CO₂. It creates a different balance and stronger growth, but the basis has to work without it.

The aquariums on this site are all in my own home, in my atelier. Some have been running for years. They are the best proof that this approach works.

This summer I started Microcosmos Atelier to do the same for others: a beautiful, healthy ecosystem in your home, one that lasts.

And you don't need to become an expert. I follow up your aquarium with you, so you're fully taken care of, with no learning curve. After all these years I can read an aquarium: I quickly see what's going on and what it needs.
